Nurse Practitioners can not be replaced by Artificial Intelligence. The role of a NP is to provide primary care to patients. In order to diagnose and treat patients is combined with not only physical examinations, but psychological examinations. Artificial Intelligence could help make the job easier but can not take the emotional, and psychological portion of treating a patient. Can a Robot show empathy, can it take the patients emotions into consideration, can a robot differentiate a hypochondriac, a pill popper, to a genuine ill person? It takes more than listing symptoms to help a person in need; it also takes empathy, compassion, and emotional examination to do the job of a Nurse Practitioner.

Using algorithms a robot can easily diagnose and prescribe appropriate medications for the majority of commonly seen disease in medical offices. We as humans use logic, experience and reasoning to diagnose. I see a savy computer programmer easily programming an AI robot to replace most family medical practitioners with a self service kiosk at Wal Mart.

AI can easily make more accurate diagnosis but I still feel that the personal dimension of the job might make Doctors stick around longer
